What umbrella covers
Personal umbrella insurance provides additional liability protection above the limits of your underlying policies, such as auto and home, for a covered claim that is larger than those limits, subject to its own terms.
It does not replace your underlying coverage, and it usually requires underlying policies with minimum limits.
