What each coverage does
Plain-English descriptions of the coverages trucking operations ask about most.
Primary liability
Pays for injury or property damage you are legally responsible for when your truck is at fault, up to your policy limit.
Motor truck cargo
Covers the freight you haul if it is lost or damaged, subject to the policy terms.
Physical damage
Covers damage to your own tractor, trailer or box truck from collision and other covered losses, such as theft or fire.
Non-trucking liability
Liability coverage that may apply when a truck leased to a motor carrier is not being used for business. Whether it applies depends on your policy and the circumstances.
Trailer interchange
Covers damage to a trailer you pull under a written interchange agreement with another party.
General liability
Covers claims of injury or property damage tied to your business operations outside your trucks, such as at your office or yard.
Workers' compensation
Covers medical costs and lost wages for employees injured on the job, where available.

Common trucking questions
Quick answers for owner-operators, fleets and new ventures.
Can you insure a brand-new trucking company?
Yes. We work with new ventures, owner-operators running one truck and established fleets. Tell us about your operation and we will look at what is available.
What is the difference between liability and cargo insurance?
Primary liability pays for injury or property damage you cause to others. Motor truck cargo covers the freight you are hauling. They protect against different things, and most operations need both.
Does cargo insurance cover my own truck?
No. Damage to your own tractor, trailer or box truck falls under physical damage coverage, which is separate from cargo.
Can I add or remove a truck or driver during the policy?
Yes. Existing clients can contact us to request changes, and we process them with your carrier. Your premium may change depending on what is added or removed.
Can you help if I have had accidents or tickets?
Often, yes. Options and pricing depend on the details of your driving and claims history, so give us a call and we will walk through what is possible.
Can I pay my premium in installments?
Financing may be available subject to approval, a required down payment, interest, fees and separate terms. Your advisor can explain the options when you review your quote.
What should I do if I have an accident?
In an emergency, call 911. Follow your insurer's claim reporting instructions promptly, including after-hours contacts, and notify Northdale for assistance at (559) 777-7657. Do not wait for a website or email response to report a time-sensitive loss. Coverage decisions are made by the carrier.
