Trailer interchange insurance
Covers damage to a trailer you pull that belongs to someone else, under a written trailer interchange agreement. Often required by the party whose trailer you are pulling.
What trailer interchange covers
Trailer interchange insurance helps pay for damage to a trailer you are pulling that belongs to another party, when you pull it under a written trailer interchange agreement, subject to the policy terms, limits and deductible.
It does not cover trailers you own, which fall under physical damage, and it does not cover the freight inside. Cargo coverage handles the load.
| Coverage | What it protects |
|---|---|
| Primary liability | Injury and property damage you cause to other people |
| Excess liability | Extra liability limits above your primary policy |
| Motor truck cargo | The freight you are hauling |
| Physical damage | Your own tractor, trailer or box truck |
| Trailer interchange | Trailers you pull that belong to someone else, under a written agreement |
| Workers' compensation | Injuries to your employees, where required and available |
Who needs trailer interchange
Drivers and carriers who regularly pull trailers owned by someone else, such as under an agreement with a trailer owner or a shipper. The agreement usually spells out the limit the other party requires.
